AEG-TOSHIBA-JetNetwork Cycling
Team to Visit Clarke Middle School
ATHENS, Ga. - Jan.
16, 2007 -- Students at Clarke Middle School
will get a break from class, but not from learning this Friday
when members of the AEG-TOSHIBA-JetNetwork Professional Cycling
Team pay the school a visit.
Based out of Athens, Ga., the team is in town for a week-long,
intensive training camp to prepare for what promises to be a landmark
season of international racing.
The entire 17-member squad and some special guests will be on-hand
to answer questions about bicycle safety, the lifestyle of a professional
bike racer and how they achieved their goals of riding for a pro
team.
Clarke Middle School has been promoting a healthier lifestyle
for its students this year by removing vending and soda machines,
and the team will also discuss how bike riding is a great way to
stay active.
“Community service and education is a major part of our
team’s program,” said Managing Director Ravi Rajcoomar. “With
the Athens Twilight Criterium in these kids’ backyard each
April, we would love to get them excited about a sport they have
direct access to.”
Clarke Middle School already has ties to cycling, as members of
the faculty and staff participate in an annual fund raising bike
ride to Savannah each spring.
“Having one of the best professional cycling teams in the
country visit will definitely show the kids that cycling is more
than just something their teachers do in their spare time, and
that people of every age can enjoy it,” said seventh grade
teacher, Jackie Soladay.
The team is scheduled to be at Clarke Middle School from 12:00
p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January19.
