ABOUT THE BIKE
BUY IT IF
FORGET IT IF
Hands-off stability. Cushy tires. Upright posture. You think you might want to try cyclocross, want a comfortable road bike without resorting to suspension, or just want a tough bike for commuting and fire-roading on. You don't understand the peculiar joys of flying dismounts and carrying your bike over your shoulder through the mud.

JAMIS NOVA

PROFILE
A cyclocross-inspired, do-anything road bike.

BEST THINGS ABOUT THIS BIKE
Aggressively priced and versatile. Commute on it, race cyclocross on it, take it on a loaded tour--this bike's ready for it all. We'd mount up fenders and use it all winter long for slushy rides, saving the "good" bike for the sunny season.

BRAGGING RIGHTS
A full compliment of rack and fender braze-ons, including low-rider front rack mounts, and a pump peg for carrying a full sized pump. Ritchey flip-flop stem gives more sizing adjustment. Powerful Avid cantilevers give tons of stopping power. New Tiagra group from Shimano looks decently finished and works extremely well. Impeccable handling with stability that makes threading your way through a tricky section of singletrack a near cakewalk.

THINGS WE'D WISH FOR
This is a do-anything bike, but pavement devotees might wish for more asphalt-biased tires than the knobby SpeedMaxes (which don't like to corner hard on pavement). Touring fans might want a triple chainring for hauling loads uphill, rather than the 39x25 low gear. Barrel adjusters would make brake setup a lot simpler.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BIKE
Size it a little small, the same way you would a cyclocross bike--the rise stem makes the bike fit a bit on the large side.
