For the third
straight day at the 2009 Amgen Tour of California, the Colavita/Sutter
Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light demonstrated
the power of teamwork. Sebastian Haedo achieved his third consecutive
top 10 placement with a 6th place finish behind the world’s
top sprinters.
Despite missing the early break in the 134.3-mile trek from
Visalia to Paso Robles, the longest stage in the race, Colavita/Sutter
Home fought hard to the finish. Aaron Olson, Tyler Wren, and
Andy Guptill allied with Astana to reel in the break, along
with riders from Quick Step, Cervelo Test Team, Columbia-Highroad,
and Garmin-Slipstream. Andy worked the last 40km with the chasers,
with help from Aaron and Tyler in the final 25km. Davide Frattini
executed Colavita/Sutter Home's strategy perfectly and put
Seba on the wheel of Thor Hushovd (Cervelo) in the last kilometer.
The Columbia train quickly took off and launched Mark Cavendish
to his second consecutive stage win.
Luis Amaran continues to hold his own in the top third of
the overall standings (#29) after Stage 5 and Seba is ranked
9th in the overall sprint classification.
Today’s race will feature individual time trials in the city
of Solvang. The 15-mile course is primarily flat, with some
rolling hills before the final mile.
