There is an allure to steel that transcends its traditional artisan appeal. And that’s its ride, the legendary benchmark that all frame materials are measured against.
Whether you’re looking at ride, strength, value or durability, steel comes out on top. It’s only when you factor in weight that it loses out to aluminum, and until you get into the super expensive carbon frames like our Xenith line, its magical ride simply cannot be matched. Which is why our Quest and Satellite continue to enjoy a devoted following. These are the original comfort road bikes and the ones against which all others are measured.
But they don’t look like the original Quest and Satellite. New for ’08, we’ve brought our size-specific tubing (SST) concept from our Xenith and Ventura series bikes and offer it on both models. While re-jigging and re-tooling, we also sloped the top tube for a lighter frame and more modern look that sacrificed nothing in terms of ride quality. These are the consummate all-rounders -- light-duty commuter, cross country tourers, even occasional racers -- that are ideal for century riders and summertime roadies alike.

Size Specific Tubing (SST) whereby smaller frames (48-54) are constructed with smaller diameter tubing to retain resiliency and ride quality, larger frames are constructed using larger diameter tubing to retain stiffness for larger riders
Reynolds 631 air-hardened chromoly actually gains strength in the weld zone area, instead of losing it like all other welded material, allowing Reynolds to draw this tubing thinner, for a lighter, stiffer frame with outstanding “feel”. Heat treated cro-moly rear stays & investment cast dropouts increase torsional stiffness by 30%
Women’s specific sizing and component selection available (48, 51, 54) featuring anatomically adjusted top tube lengths & women’s specific saddles, Shimano ST-R700 shifters for smaller hands, stem, handlebar and crank dimensions adjusted to provide more comfort & efficiency
Updated frame design utilizing sloping top tube, but retaining the great riding geometry this model is famous for, plus lighter weight
Jamis Full Carbon composite road fork offers an exceptionally smooth ride, and is stiff, light & strong
Mavic Aksium wheelset features QRM sealed bearing hubs for a fast rolling, low maintenance ride; UB Control milled rim sidewalls for smooth braking and profiled stainless steel spokes, giving these wheels the look of the super-gucci Ksyrium’s
FSA’s compact crankset concept is revolutionary: a 34T inner chainring offers a 15% lower gear ratio than the traditional 39T double ringe’d road cranks, but the 50T outer loses only 6% off the top end compared to the 53T traditional outer. You get the hill climbing capability of a triple, yet weight less than a standard double
FSA’s MegaExo integrated BB eliminates bottom bracket flex with oversized external bearings providing additional stiffness and strength
Shimano R560 brakes feature industry-leading pad compound for improved modulation and secure wet/dry stopping performance
Complete Shimano 105 drivetrain assures light, precise shifting over all 20-speeds
SRAM 10-speed chain with PowerLock connecting link for ultimate chain security and dependability
Ritchey Comp Road cockpit with Pro BioMax II handlebars for comfort, lightweight and dependability
Vittoria Rubino 23c tires for legendary road holding capability and ride quality
